Award Description:

The Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences offers awards in support of students who are participating in a formally approved exchange, Study Abroad, practicum, internship or experiential learning opportunity.

Awards are to be paid to the student recipient during the term in which the travel or experiential learning opportunity takes place. Apply early for best consideration, even if your confirmed travel or experiential learning opportunity is not taking place in the immediate upcoming term.

Award Eligibility:

– ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA –

An ALES Bar None International Experience Award

Field of Study: Any program in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences

Conditions: Awarded to student(s) with satisfactory academic standing entering any year of study for an undergraduate or graduate degree in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences and participating as an outgoing or incoming student in a Faculty-approved formal exchange program, international study abroad program, international internship, or practicum opportunity in a developing country. Selection based on demonstrated leadership qualities in extracurricular and community activities, academic standing and demonstrated expected benefit of study and/or research opportunity. Preference will be given to student(s) who will be engaging in an agricultural or environmental field experience program.

 

The Kelly-Kennelly Bar None International Undergraduate Award

Field of Study: Any program in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences

Conditions: Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing entering or continuing in the second, third or fourth year of study in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences who is participating in a formal University of Alberta international study, research or internship program managed by the University of Alberta Education Abroad Program. Selection based on demonstrated leadership qualities in extracurricular and community activities, the potential to promote the University of Alberta as determined in the application, and the proposed international program to be undertaken. Recipients may receive only one Bar None Award or Scholarship in any given academic year.

 

The Myrna and Allen Snart Bar None International Undergraduate Scholarship

Field of Study: Any program in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences

Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement entering or continuing in the third or fourth year of study in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences who is participating in a formal University of Alberta international study, research or internship program managed by the University of Alberta Education Abroad Program.

Selection based on demonstrated leadership qualities in extracurricular and community activities, the potential to promote the University of Alberta as determined in the application, and the proposed international program to be undertaken.

Recipients may receive only one Bar None Award or Scholarship in any given academic year.

 

Award for International Undergraduate Exchange

Field of Study: Any program in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences

Conditions: To be awarded annually to an undergraduate student with satisfactory academic standing (GPA of at least 3.3) in any major in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences. Recipient will be selected on the basis of: – Interest in national/international affairs – the ability to be a good ambassador for the University and Canada – Leadership ability – the number of credits to be completed at the exchange institution

 

The Ralph Ashmead Agricultural Economics International Award

Field of Study: Agriculture

Conditions: Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing entering any year of an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences who is participating in a Faculty-approved formal exchange program, international study abroad program, international internship, or practicum opportunity. Selection based on demonstrated leadership qualities in extracurricular and community activities, academic standing and demonstrated expected benefit of study and/or research opportunity. Preference given to an Alberta resident who will be engaging in the agricultural resource economics or sustainable agricultural systems field experience.

The Agriculture Class of 1962 Travel Award

Field of Study: Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences

Conditions: Awarded to a Canadian citizen with satisfactory academic standing continuing in the third or fourth year of a Bachelor of Science in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences who is participating in a formal University of Alberta international study, research, or internship program. Selection based on demonstrated expected benefit of the study and/or research opportunity. Preference given to a student in the Agriculture, Agricultural/Food Business Management, or Animal Health program.

 

The Barbara C Poole Family Experiential Learning Fund

Field of Study: Environmental and Conservation Sciences

Conditions: Awarded to a student wishing to incorporate or participate in Faculty-approved experiential learning opportunities. Funding may be used for the following purposes:

  • To support unpaid experiential learning opportunities offered by nonprofit or public service organizations
  • To support paid experiential learning opportunities where additional funding for transportation or housing is needed to enable students to
  • To support service learning projects where students will be participating in community service related to the ENCS
  • To support international learning opportunities
  • Money may be granted for other expenses related to experiential learning that are not described above if those funds will make it possible for a student to participate in a research, internship or international experience.

This fund DOES NOT fund normal summer employment, credit courses or general conference attendance.

 

Frank Aherne Undergraduate Award

Field of Study: Agriculture or Animal Health

Conditions: Awarded to a student with a minimum GPA of 3.0 entering or enrolled in the fourth year of the BSc. in Agriculture or BSc. in Animal Health program in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences who is involved with hands-on learning experience related to food animal production. This will include practical experience in a professional, industrial, or research setting (at the University of Alberta, a partner institution or a government research facility). Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing and the proposed experiential learning opportunity.

 

Alberta Poultry Industry Council Experiential Learning Award

Field of Study: Agriculture or Animal Health

Conditions: Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in any year of the BSc. in Agriculture or BSc. in Animal Health program and studying any aspect of the poultry industry, who plan to participate in an experiential learning opportunity related to the poultry industry. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic standing and their proposed experiential learning opportunity. Preference will be given to students pursuing other sources of funding.

 

Wein Family International Travel Award

Field of Study: Environmental and Conservation Sciences, Forestry or Forest Business Management

Conditions: To be awarded annually to any University of Alberta undergraduate student with satisfactory academic standing of at least 3.3 who is entering the third or fourth year of studies, who has demonstrated an interest in understanding national parks or conservation areas outside of Canada and the United States. The award will be granted to a student to assist with travel expenses so that the student can complete an independent studies course under the supervision of a University of Alberta faculty member who has links to a faculty member of a university outside Canada and the United States who, in turn, has links to a national park or conservation area in his/her country. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing and his/her proposal of study for the independent studies course. Preference will be given to students who are Alberta residents. This award can be held jointly with other awards and scholarships.
