Purpose
The Roger S Smith Undergraduate Student Research Award in the Faculty of Agriculture, Life and Environmental Science is intended to cultivate and support research partnerships between undergraduate students and faculty members. The award is offered for research experience in social sciences and humanities.

Value and Number of Awards

Four awards are available, two for Human Ecology students and two for Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology students, each $5,000. This provides students with 15 weeks of research-based activity from May to August.

Award Eligibility:

The award is open to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the Faculty of Agriculture, Life and Environmental Science, Departments of Human Ecology and Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology (REES) who are entering their second, third, or fourth year and who achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0. The student must have completed at least 30 credits but no more than 90 credits (plus or minus 6 credits). Students who are graduating in the current year or those who are planning to transfer to another Faculty are not eligible.

How to Apply:

Contact APO in REES and HE for information and the application form.

•Approach a professor involved in research that you find appealing and develop a mutually beneficial project.

•Supervising professor must complete their section and sign your application form before it is submitted to express a willingness to supervise the work.

•Submit a competed application form, along with your resume to the department contacts.

•While it must be indicated whether the project requires ethics approval, the student will only need to go through the Research Ethics Board approval process post-adjudication if they receive the award.

•Applications must be submitted as a single PDF.

•The award is tenable only once in an undergraduate student’s career.

Submission of this application, with resume, will only be accepted in electronic format, and is due by March 31 2019.
